Rebecca Warner's primary research area is in musical theatre and music in theatre, from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Her current doctoral research is engaged with developing a model for analysing meaning in musical theatre. Alongside her two co-writers, she has recently been awarded a commission from the George Bernard Shaw estate to adapt The Devil's Disciple into a musical theatre piece. Throughout this project she will be engaging in research to draw together questions of genre, and choices made historically in the adaptation of Shaw's work for the musical stage (My Fair Lady and The Chocolate Soldier) and incorporating this into practice-based research involved in the adaptation of The Devil's Disciple.

Rebecca studied at Cambridge University and at the Royal College of Music, where she trained in film composition. She has worked as a creative practitioner ever since, primarily in theatre, composing, and musically directing, scores for numerous plays, new musicals, children's theatre, dance pieces, TV musicals, short films and radio drama and documentary. Her work extends throughout the UK and internationally.

Rebecca also does much outreach and community theatre work, including large-scale community theatre at Watford Palace Theatre, and musical theatre projects with the Bedford and District Cerebral Palsy Society, and for BBC Learning. A recent TV music project for learning disabled children, Wanna Be a Rockstar, was nominated for a children's BAFTA award. Within the scope of the development of new musical theatre, Rebecca currently has a musical due to be licensed through Perfect Pitch Musicals. (As a practitioner, Rebecca works under her maiden name, Rebecca Applin).
