Jon teaches World Music and Ethnomusicology, directs the World Music Ensemble and has lectured on the Romantics for Music and Musicianship 1B. He completed his DPhil on rhetoric in the renaissance motet and also lectures on Acoustics, Music and Science, and non-Western and microtonal tuning systems.

Jon is a performer with an international profile, specialising in early and Oriental string instruments. He has toured, broadcast and recorded with groups including The Dufay Collective, The Burning Bush, Joglaresa, the Jocelyn Pook Ensemble, Sirinu, and Iranian ensembles with Fariborz Kiani and Davod Azad, as well as leading performance workshops in collaboration with the BBC Concert Orchestra. Other activities include freelance film and TV sessions and regular appearances with Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

He is keen to supervise research in the areas of:
