Creative Music Technology
Research in Creative Music Technology is centred on the development of new systems for investigating aspects of the human-machine interface, and the utilisation of live software processing and sound manipulation. This work has been greatly facilitated by newly equipped studio resources, which provide an up-to-date and comprehensive research environment. For example, researchers have constructed 'hacked' instruments and developed controller interfaces for live electronics. Ready-made sensors and digital interface boxes are used 'off-the-shelf' for investigation into the mapping of physical gesture to sound and its creative possibilities. In 2006 the department hosted and co-organised a successful workshop with the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities at Cambridge University and the ICT Methods Network, which attracted international entrants and was repeated in 2008.
