The MEME are a group of electronic and acoustic musicians from the Department of Music at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. The MEME meets every week in term-time to explore the boundaries between traditional instruments, traditional music idioms, improvisation, prepared sound-files, synthesis, noise and video art. The MEME also looks for new, non-traditional, ways of controlling the live production and processing of sound. Recently we have been experimenting with the amplifying of sounds made by small objects as well as using abstract video as a score for directed improvisation and crossing over into free jazz. The MEME presents at least one yearly lunchtime concert and a final year concert as part of the MPA Department's Festival Week. We actively seek concerts beyond these and are open to the creative contributions of every MEME performer.
