Drama Studios
Drama at Anglia Ruskin University has some fantastic facilities. In 2005 we acquired the Cambridge Drama Centre (in Covent Garden, just off Mill Road). This black-box style studio provides excellent rehearsal space and converts into an ideal small-scale performance venue, with movable seating and full lighting and sound capabilities. In addition, a second, newly equipped and dedicated studio space on-campus accommodates workshops and rehearsals. The Drama course also has use of the Mumford Theatre, which is situated on the Anglia Ruskin University campus in Cambridge, and is a full-size, receiving house for professional touring theatre companies, local amateur companies and student productions. It offers a comprehensive programme of work throughout the year. A number of our assessed student productions are housed in this venue, alongside other performances within the Department of Music and Performing Arts. The Mumford technical staff support student practical work, offering on-site help and advice on all our practical projects and performance.
The fully-equipped Television Studio on campus, with its three cameras and production gallery, is available for student use.
The Department also has strong links with The Junction, a purpose-built, arts venue in Cambridge. As well as programming an exciting range of contemporary and experimental performance, dance and visual artwork, it is home to two national touring theatre companies - Hoipolloi and Classworks. Cambridge has an exceptional range of theatre venues and theatre groups, covering mainstream productions, experimental work and amateur shows. Wherever appropriate, our modules include attendance at live performances at these venues and also in London, which is within easy reach of the city by train or coach.
