What our students say

Dr Karl Dembicki

Legal Practice Course

After completing the Graduate Diploma in Law I wanted to return to Cambridge as I was born there and have strong local connections. I wanted to practice in the region but had placed all my efforts into study and had not applied for training contracts.

The strong connections that the faculty enjoys with the legal community and the focus on employability was soon apparent. Within a month of starting the LPC a respected Cambridge firm came on to campus to recruit paralegals through a rigorous set of interviews. I was successful in obtaining a position as a paralegal in the firm's private client department and gained invaluable experience. After completing the LPC the firm offered me a training contract which I was delighted to accept.

The academic side of study is challenging. Many of the staff worked within the higher echelons of the profession and maintain strong links with practice so they know what employers expect of potential trainees. The staff operate an open door policy, are more than approachable, and were always on hand to clarify any points arising from lectures or workshops. Perhaps most impressive was the fact that every staff member knew us individually and their pastoral care was sincere; not always the case with larger providers.

Andrew Luff

LLB (Hons) Law

I took a redundancy package after a long career in the public sector came to an end. I passed over the chance to study law when I was much younger but a visit to an Anglia Ruskin undergraduate open day convinced me that it is never too late!

I'm balancing part-time law study with running my own business. In all honesty I didn't know how I would cope but the lecturers and staff at Anglia Ruskin have offered excellent support. The lectures and learning materials have been excellent and I have found the course intellectually stimulating, relevant and very interesting. Access to online law databases and learning materials adds considerably to the ability to study in flexible way which was important to me.

I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending the Anglia Ruskin Law School and LLB to anybody thinking of studying for a law degree.

Legal Practice Course

The LPC is a fast pace course which starts as it means to go on. Whilst this can be slightly daunting at first, at Anglia Ruskin this is greatly helped by the supportive and approachable staff. The tutors have great experience of what life is like in legal practice, which is always very useful in helping one to see the long term goal.

Choosing Anglia Ruskin over a larger provider means I have received a much more hands-on learning experience through small group workshops, which has certainly helped my understanding and means any problems with a particular topic can be resolved as they arise. The facilities are excellent; there are designated LPC rooms, a common room and a computer room, which are all very useful... this course is vital in helping to convert what is learnt at undergraduate level to something applicable to everyday legal scenarios, and hopefully now I am as ready as I can be to start an eagerly awaited Training Contract!

LLB (Hons) Law & Legal Practice Course

I have received tremendous help and support from the Law School and the University. It is not simply about receiving a University education, it is about being part of a closely-knit and supportive community. This is particularly important for an international student.

Sam Cook

LLB (Hons) Law

I'm coming to the end of my LLB and I've witnessed many positive changes, not only in my fellow students, but in the University itself. The University recognises that it is not simply a collection of buildings, it's the sum of all the people involved with it. Perhaps because Anglia Ruskin is a modern University, it has a character that is growing and developing all the time. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here and am proud to have been involved in a short slice of the University's history.

Anyone who has completed the LPC would agree that it isn't easy, but it's made simpler when it is effectively run and well taught. Anglia Ruskin provides excellent teaching support throughout the course, as well as ensuring the administration is so smooth that you hardly notice it! The LPC team make a tough year just a little bit easier, and make sure that each individual is in the best possible position to enter the world of legal practice.

Cigdem Ulger

LLM International Business Law

Students on the LLM International Business Law come from a wide variety of countries from across the world. This has enhanced my educational experience and enabled me to explore and appreciate different cultures. Throughout the course I have received excellent support from my lecturers. This has been very important because English is not my first language. The course will no doubt enhance my employment opportunities. The University has also provided me with other employment-enhancing opportunities: Eversheds, the third largest Law Firm in the world, is acting as my mentor; I am also working as a volunteer in the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Iram Kassam

LLB (Hons) Law

I have gained significantly from the quality of teaching at Anglia Law School. The library is well stocked; it's brilliant to have access to on-line journals. The Careers Service is excellent. Support from my tutors and the University has been first rate and I would definitely recommend Anglia Ruskin University to prospective law students.

Ian McPhee

LLB (Hons) Law

Before I started my LLB I was making sandwiches for the minimum wage, but now I'm heading for a legal career. As someone who was returning to education, I was naturally worried about whether I could cope with the demands of a law degree. It was a great relief to find the Law School's lecturers really going out of their way to help me with any questions or problems I had. It felt like their door was always open.
