Julia is a Principal Lecturer in Law. Her previous roles include Director of the Legal Practice Course, Programme Leader for Professional Law Courses and Course Leader of the LLM Legal Practice. Originally admitted as a solicitor, whilst in private practice Julia undertook mainly litigation cases and devoted a substantial amount of time to advocacy.
Julia has an MA by Research from Queen Mary, University of London and an LLM in Commercial and Corporate Law from Kings College, London. Whilst studying as a postgraduate student Julia also completed the Associateship of King's College examinations in philosophical theology and ethics. She has a particular interest in insolvency law and recently undertook research into whether Individual Voluntary Arrangements have proved successful in providing an effective alternative to bankruptcy for insolvent debtors in the 25 years since their introduction.
Julia is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and was recently part of a learning and teaching project into the effectiveness of audio digital feedback for undergraduate Law students. Julia currently teaches Dispute Resolution to postgraduate International Business Law students and the Law of Tort to undergraduates.
