After reading law at the University of East Anglia, Andrew practised as a family law solicitor before becoming a lecturer. He has been at Anglia Ruskin since 2005, having previously taught at the University of Hertfordshire. His teaching areas include public law, human rights, family and child law. He is also the undergraduate admissions tutor and international coordinator for law in Cambridge.
Andrew's research interests are principally in the area of family law and policy. He is currently undertaking doctoral research at University College London examining family law under the Thatcher governments.
He was an Anglia Ruskin Learning and Teaching Fellow for 2008-9 and used this opportunity to develop a computer-based action maze for use in teaching problem-solving skills in family law. Andrew is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
In the 2010 General Election Andrew was the Conservative parliamentary candidate for the Birkenhead constituency. He is also a trustee director of Relate in Cambridge.
