Law students were given an insider's perspective on the Westminster and European parliaments this semester when they were visited by Julian Huppert MP for Cambridge and Vicky Ford MEP for the Eastern Region.

The lawmakers separately attended the Cambridge campus to speak to the first year Constitutional and Administrative Law class about their interesting and varied roles. The talks were arranged by the module leader Andrew Gilbert, who is a principal lecturer in Anglia Law School.

Andrew commented: "Having guest speakers like this really helps students to understand how law and policymaking works out there in the world. The question and answer sessions kept the speakers on their toes and they ranged widely over topics such as same-sex marriage, counterfeit medicines, and the practicalities of coalition government."

The Chelmsford law students were due to meet Geoffrey Van Order MEP but unfortunately he was called back to Brussels at the last minute on urgent business. It is hoped that his visit will be rearranged for sometime later in the year.
