Law lecturer to stand in general election

Andrew Gilbert, Senior Lecturer in Anglia Law School, has been selected as a parliamentary candidate for the Conservative party in the forthcoming general election. He was chosen last year for the Labour-held seat of Birkenhead in the north west of England, where Andrew's family has lived for generations. Since his selection Andrew has had to balance being a candidate with both his university commitments and the arrival of a new baby in October last year.

Andrew added: "It's a huge honour to be the Conservative candidate in Birkenhead. It's a challenging seat but I'm relishing the experience. I'm fairly unusual in being a Conservative candidate with a background in higher education and it's useful to bring that experience into the political arena."
