Launch of the International Law Unit at the Alumni Networking Event

Dr Tom Mortimer, Director of the International Law Unit
Friday 11 December 2009 saw the launch of the International Law Unit (ILU) on the Cambridge campus, which was combined with the alumni law networking evening. A mixture of alumni, current and past staff and Anglia Ruskin students provided a great cocktail of law related professionals.

After Dr Tom Mortimer, Director of the ILU (pictured) had welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending, the ILU was officially launched. Guest speakers included Wolfgang Speckhahn talking on Real Estate Investment Trusts in Europe and Robert Wardle, (former Director of the Serious Fraud Office), on International dimensions in serious fraud. Robert has very kindly agreed to act as Patron and be a Member of the ILU Steering Committee. Baljit Ubhey, a Chief Prosecutor with Thames Valley Crown Prosecution Service and a Member of the Steering Committee of the ILU, then spoke about her career to date and why she was delighted at her invitation to be part of the ILU. Finally, Graham Humby, the ILU Business Development Director, concluded the event with a presentation on 'expanding business opportunities in the Law School'. All presentations will be available shortly on the alumni website as pod casts.

After the presentations, the Law School provided a hot buffet along with wine and some seasonal mince pies. All those who attended really enjoyed the evening, which was a great opportunity both for our students to network with local law firms and for our alumni to be reunited with old classmates and lecturers.

Our next Law Networking event will be held in Chelmsford on 9 July 2010. Full details will be on the alumni website nearer the time.
