Penny English in Oslo
Dr Penny English spent the last week of the Summer holidays in Oslo, taking part in the annual European
Association of Archaeologists conference. How did a lawyer come to be there? Well, she was jointly organising a session (together with Dr Suzie Thomas of the Council for British Archaeology) on the topic 'Archaeology and Law, Archaeology and Ethics'.
The session was very successful and stimulating, attracting a variety of papers from different European countries. These all had a common theme, which was to look at how legal and ethical constraints impact, in a range of different jurisdictions, the practice of archaeology on the ground (or perhaps it should be in the ground!).
