Anglia Law School students benefit from criminal litigation
In Semester One of 2010-11, 3rd year students at Anglia Law School had the opportunity to take a module in criminal litigation for the first time ever, making Anglia Ruskin University only the second University in the country to offer such a course to undergraduates.
This very practical module, designed and led by Jane Martin, is built around a case study following one defendant from arrest to trial, giving students an opportunity to role play events as they unfold. The role of the paralegal is stressed throughout. The module develops a wide range of skills including research, interviewing, negotiation, drafting, legal writing, and precise legal and factual analysis. It also enables students to develop commercial awareness and practical knowledge of core aspects of criminal work in practice.
The module is particularly useful for those wishing to go into practice as lawyers or paralegals, although the skills developed are highly transferable and will be very useful and attractive in a wide range of careers. on top of this, successful completion of the module (along with other third year modules) entitles the student to graduate membership of the National Association of Licensed Paralegals, as does the new Civil Litigation module which is available in Semester Two.
