Dr Theo Schulte is Senior Lecturer and Pathway Leader for both Politics and 20th Century European History & Politics. He teaches on several undergraduate degree programmes including History, German, Politics, Criminology, and the contextual studies element of Graphic Art. The main focus of his teaching is twentieth-century Europe - particularly modern and contemporary Germany.

He is particularly interested in the relationship between history and memory - as exemplified in his new module on the First World War which deals with notions of remembrance. Dr Schulte has a track record of research and publication in the history of the German army, and has written several articles on this topic in both German and English, and a monograph - The German Army and Nazi Policies in Occupied Russia [1990]. His current research is focused on war crimes, and builds upon his previous role as an historical consultant and expert witness for the Canadian Justice Department. He is currently working on a monograph on the role of war crimes trials in the historical process. Dr Schulte has been Guest Lecturer at the University of Cambridge, and is External Assessor for the Junior Research Fellowship programme at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
