Andrew graduated from Sheffield University in 1994 having completed his degree in Archaeology and Prehistory. Before enrolling at university Andrew worked for three years as a field archaeologist for Fenland Archaeological Trust as a way of gaining practical experience before embarking on a more academic route. Post University Andrew has worked on a number of archaeological excavations throughout the British Isles ranging from a Neolithic settlement on mainland Orkney to a post-medieval structure in Cambridgeshire.

Many of the sites excavated by Andrew have been subsequently written-up by him and published by Cambridgeshire County Council Archaeological Field Unit, these include: Prehistoric Landscape at Stowe Farm, West Deeping, Lincolnshire and Prehistoric and Roman Settlement Remains at Mayor's Walk, Peterborough to name just two.

Andrew started teaching on the part-time evening archaeology course in 2002 progressing to full-time teaching on the archaeology degree course as well as GCE A Levels in 2003. Andrew is currently researching Bronze Age field systems within the Soke of Peterborough, their location and function.
