Seán's History double-bill wins Drama Festival plaudits

Two plays written by Senior Lecturer in History Dr Seán Lang received strong reports from adjudicators at the recent Cambridge Drama Festival, winning the Best Costumes award and being nominated in almost every other category.

The double bill, entitled When No-one Dare Speak Out, comprises Seán's plays The Necessity of Atheism, about Shelley's expulsion from Oxford in 1811, and The Usual Incentive, which centres around the revelations of atrocities in the Belgian Congo. It has also played successfully at the Covent Garden drama studio in Cambridge and Oxford's Old Fire Station Arts Centre, providing an opportunity for the cast to look around the real setting for Shelley's story.

The Covent Garden show has been reviewed in Local Secrets.
