Criminology lecturer comments on tragic shooting to national press
Dr Natalie Mann, Lecturer in Criminology and resident of Clacton-on-Sea, was recently asked to provide expert reaction to both local and national media following the tragic shooting of local police officer Ian Dibell.
PC Dibell was shot while off-duty by Peter Reeve, who was himself later found dead from a gunshot wound in the cemetery of the Essex coastal town.
In her piece for The Telegraph, Dr Mann described the shooting as sending "ripples of fear through what is essentially a sleepy seaside town" and expressed her concern that our modern individualist lifestyles might lead to a climate in which people are too fearful to support each other.
The full article can be read on the Telegraph website. Dr Mann also provided comment to ITV, The Huffington Post UK and the East Anglian Daily Times, and has recently published a new book on the experiences of ageing male prisoners in England and Wales.
