An expert on international relations, he is the most important historian working on the history of the intelligence services. His many works include Secret Service: The Making of the British Intelligence Community (1985) and The Mitrokhin Archive (1995) which deals with the KGB. Professor Andrew is a familiar figure on radio and television having presented many programmes including the Radio Four series What If? His talk coincides with the publication of his new book, The Defence of the Realm: The Authorized History of M15 which will inform his talk. The book has been widely reviewed and discussed over the last few weeks because of its revelations about the secret service. The talk promises to be a major event.
The Robert Murray Memorial Lecture is named after a former head of History at Anglia Ruskin University who built up the department. His particular interest was in the history of both Italy and the United States. Each year a leading historian is invited to speak at Anglia in memory of a scholar who gave so much to the institution.
