Lee Smith
BA (Hons) Creative Writing, 2010
Lee's collection of poems, Away from the City, was published by Salt Publishing in 2010. The poems were originally written for Lee's third year Major Writing Project. His idea was to explore the relationship between poetry and photography, and attempt to create poetic images in both media. He also exhibited them as part of the Changing Spaces project in Cambridge, and as a one-night exhibition at the Ruskin Gallery.
Salt have published the collection as a chapbook for their new Modern Voices series, a platform designed to provide an alternative format to full-length collections, and a good way to introduce people to new work. For more information about Away in the City and to view a sample of the book, please visit the Salt Publishing website.

Beth won the Cambridge University Press (CUP) Best Dissertation Award for her business plan to start a magazine for English Language students living in Cambridge, and turned her ambition into reality by releasing The International Student Times.
Beth said: "It was a wonderful feeling to receive the CUP Dissertation Award and it was great to receive such enthusiasm for my plan and ideas. The business plan contained different things that I've learnt from my MA Publishing and to receive this from CUP is fantastic as it means that other people also see merit in my idea."

Penny Hancock
MA Creative Writing, 2009
Penny Hancock, one of our first MA Creative Writing graduates, secured a two-book deal with Simon & Schuster, following an intense bidding war. The first of the two novels, Tideline, has drawn comparisons with the writing of Belinda Bauer, Sophie Hannah, Minette Walters and Nicci French.
Francesca Main, commissioning editor, said: "This is a masterfully controlled, beautifully written and utterly mesmerising novel with a darkly evocative setting. I'm delighted that we'll be publishing Penny, who no doubt has a glittering future ahead of her."
Simon & Schuster will publish Tideline in trade paperback and bespoke limited edition hardback in Spring 2012. The novel was the subject of substantial foreign rights interest at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
