Clare leads and teaches practice-based radio production modules, heading a small team of professional radio practitioners who deliver teaching across all three years of Communication Studies and Media Studies undergraduate degrees. She leads and teaches the first year core theory module Media and Technology.

Clare studied part-time at Anglia Ruskin University while teaching radio production to attain a first class degree: BA (Hons) Communication Studies (2002) and an MA Communication, Culture and Media (2008), which she achieved with distinction. Before lecturing in higher education Clare was a freelance broadcast television and radio journalist, specialising in current affairs and other factual programmes. She worked for BBC network and local radio, BBC World Service Radio, independent local radio and BBC and ITV regional and network television. Her experience includes producing documentaries for the BBC Radio 4 series File on 4 and reporting for Woman's Hour and You and Yours. She has also worked as a bi-media (radio and television) trainer for BBC Network Radio Training.

Clare's research interests focus on the cultural significance of 'human interest' news, the concept and construction of celebrity in media and audience discourse online and the implications of such discourse for how concepts of the public sphere may be defined.

Clare supervises final year undergraduate dissertations in areas relating to media producers, audiences and the public sphere and also supports students taking independent learning modules in radio production.

Clare is the Employability Champion for ECFM, liaising with academic colleagues and the university's Employability Service to promote students' experience of employability skills in the department's curricula, via work experience and extra-curricular events.
