A remarkably subtle, witty and sophisticated writer, Elizabeth Taylor is still surprisingly little known although her name appears regularly on lists of underrated writers and two of her novels, Angel and Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont, have made successful films.
2012 marks the centenary of Taylor's birth - a timely opportunity for a critical assessment of her significance. The conference will consider the full range of her publications from her first novel At Mrs Lippincote's to her children's book, Mossy Trotter.
