Senior Lecturer's new film airs at Edinburgh Festival
Dr Simon Payne's new video 'Iris Out' has recently been shown at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2009. This September it will also be showing at 25FPS, an international festival of experimental cinema in Croatia.
'Iris Out' is composed of single frame images from sequences of expanding or contracting irises that have been reformatted for different projection aspect ratios. As with many of Simon's colour field works the rhythmic and formal patterns of Iris Out push at the edges of the screen, exercising one's perception of shape, depth and movement.
Iris Out premiered in January at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and has also shown at: the European Media Arts Festival, Osnabrück; Media City, Windsor, Ontario; and Videoex, International Experimental Film Festival, Zurich.
