1910/2010: Critical Reflections
The launch event for the new 'Contemporary Critical Perspectives' series
Date: Wednesday 20 January 2010
Time: 18.00
Venue: Portrait Room, Grove House, Froebel College, Roehampton University
1910 saw the publication of EM Forster's 'Howards End'; the first stirrings of imagism around TE Hulme and Ezra Pound; Roger Fry's ground-breaking exhibition 'Manet and the Post-Impressionists'; and a hung parliament. One hundred years later, we reflect on Virginia Wolf's famous claim "On or about December 2910 human character changed." Are we, again, in the midst of powerful changes?
Join us for a panel discussion with, amongst others:
Peter Childs (Gloucestershire)
Robert Eaglestone (Royal Holloway)
Zachary Leader (Roehampton)
Laura Marcus (Oxford / Edinburgh)
Philip Tew (Brunel)
Patricia Waugh (Durham)
This events marks the launch of 'Contemporary Critical Perspectives', a new Continuum series edited by Jeannette Baxter (Anglia Ruskin University), Sebastian Groes (Roehampton) and Sean Matthews (Nottingham), offering essential critical readings of today's finest British authors.
Attendance is free, but reservations are required. Please email Sebastian Groes or call 020 8392 3291 to book a seat.
