Anglia Ruskin Fiction Prize 2010
Anglia Ruskin University is delighted to launch a new short story competition, open to all our University's students. This year's judge is novelist and short story writer Ali Smith, whose work has been shortlisted for the Orange Prize (twice), The Booker Prize, and The Man Booker Prize. She has won three Scottish Arts Council Book Awards (in 1995, 2001, & 2002), the Encore Award, & the Whitbread Novel Award. Her recent collection of stories, The First Person and Other Stories, was published in 2008.
Guidelines for entry
- Open to all current, registered Anglia Ruskin students
- Up to 2,000 words, including title
- First prize £250, Second prize £150, Third prize £50
- Entries due Tuesday 16 March 2010 by 4pm
Entry format:
- Submit your story to the English, Communication, Film and Media administrative office in Helmore 245, Cambridge campus. Stories will be accepted from 10am Tuesday 9 March to 4pm Tuesday 16 March.
- Stories may be sent by post. Address these to: Fiction Contest, c/o Magda Generalczyk, EFCM Administrative Office, Helmore 245, Anglia Ruskin University, East Road, Cambridge, CB1 1PT. Entries must be received between March 9th and 16th.
- Include a detachable cover sheet with your name, Anglia Ruskin SID, contact details, title of story, and word count. Also include your SID and story title on the first page of the story itself. Do not include your name anywhere on the story itself.
- All entries should be 1.5 or double spaced and include page numbers.
Eligibility:
- All entries must be the student's original work, not previously published, appearing online, or broadcast. Entries may be revised versions of stories previously submitted as part of an academic course.
- Students working on the administration of the prize are not eligible for entry
- One entry per student.
Copyright:
Worldwide copyright remains with the author. Anglia Ruskin will have the unrestricted right to publish the winning and shortlisted entries, in full or in part, for publicity and any resulting anthology.

Judging:
- The judges' decisions are final.
- The contest will not be able to offer feedback or otherwise discuss entries.
- Anglia Ruskin staff will be unable to read drafts or make comments on any prospective entries.
- Winners will be announced by May.

Any entries received late, or not adhering to these rules, will unfortunately be disqualified.
