Farah makes Hugo Awards shortlist

Professor Farah Mendlesohn (Head of the Department of English, Communication, Film and Media) has received a Hugo Nomination for The Cambridge Companion to Fantasy Literature (Cambridge University Press, January 2012). Co-edited with Professor Edward James of University College Dublin, the book explores the history of fantasy since the Enlightenment, from the literary, such as magic realism, to more popular forms like paranormal romance.

Farah and Edward previously won a Hugo Prize in 2005 with The Cambridge Companion to Science Fiction, and Farah has received six nominations in total since 2001.

The Hugo Awards are science fiction's most prestigious award and have been presented every year since 1955. They are organised by the World Science Fiction Convention, whose members also vote on them.

Speaking about the nomination, Farah said: "We are delighted. The field is very strong, and it's a real pleasure to see an academic book be included in what is a popular ballot of science fiction fans."

The final winners will be announced at a presentation ceremony during LoneStarCon 3 (The 71st World Science Fiction Convention), which will be held in Texas from 29 August 29-2 September 2013.
