Sophie has over 15 years experience as a filmmaker including 10 years as an independent producer working in the Australian film and television industry, having trained at the Australian national film school AFTRS. Her short films and television documentaries have received almost 20 festival screenings and industry nominations internationally, winning 10 awards including a Silver Spire from the San Francisco Golden Gate Awards for the drama Square One (producer), a Silver Hugo at the Chicago Film Festival for short drama He & She (Producer) and a Gold Plaque, also from the Chicago Film Festival, for the short dance/drama Swing Your Partner, which she wrote and directed.

For television, the documentary Two Thirds Sky (Producer) was commissioned by SBS and screened on national television in Australia and cable in the UK. Her documentary series Homemade History (Producer) was also commissioned by SBS for national broadcast and has recently been re-licensed to the ABC.

In addition, Sophie has taught film production at the University of Technology Sydney, trained in script editing at the National Film and Television School in London and completed an MA Film Studies here at Anglia Ruskin.


Areas of supervision

Sophie's research interests include:
  • processes of storytelling across documentary and drama
  • representation of memory in cinema (including the use of archival and home-movie footage)
