Kerstin Hacker is Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Photography and MA Photography at the Cambridge School of Art. She is also the Employment Champion for the Cambridge School of Art and has a strong interest in internationalizing the student experience.

Kerstin is link tutor for the FdA Professional Photography course at Huntingdon Regional College.

Kerstin also sits on the Faculty Board, is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and an elected member of the German Photographic Society (DGPh).

Kerstin is a practicing photo-documentarist. She has travelled widely and her work has been published and exhibited in Europe and beyond. Clients include Save the Children, Sight Saver International, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The British Council and UNICEF.

Her work is recognized though prizes and sponsorship deals. She is Alexia Grant alumni in the US, a 1st prize winner of the EMMA/ Agfa Female Photojournalist of the year competition in Germany and was recently shortlisted for an Association of Photographers Lecturer Award.

She has covered themes like Children in Prison, Prostitution, Maternity Hospital and Sudeten Germans in the Czech Republic. At the moment she is exploring the middle classes in Africa.

Recently Kerstin has completed an Educational Partnerships in Africa Grant project from the British Council and the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. Together with the University of Zambia they developed the first degree level course in photography in Southern Africa (except in South Africa) and the course will have its first intake of students in 2013.

Kerstin Hacker's research interests lie in the representation of Africa and improving visual literacy and visual self-governance in developing countries.

Kerstin holds a BA and MA in Photography from FAMU Academy for Applied Arts (Czech Republic), a Postgraduate Diploma in Research Methods and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning.

Kerstin is interested in internal and external collaborations. She is qualified to supervise MRes and PhD candidates.
