Julian Hughes-Watts studied at the Royal Academy of Arts and was awarded the Geoffrey Ball Memorial Prize from The Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers. Recently he won the 2010 Deptford X Award for his digital installation.
Exhibitions include Graceland, curated by Juan Bolivar, London; a solo show of digital films at Deptford X 2010; Dawnbreakers at the John Hansard Gallery, Southampton; Reconstructing the Old House, Nunnery Gallery, London; Saxon at the Schwartz Gallery, London; Intervention curated by Richard Ducker at the Fieldgate Gallery, London; Eau Savage, Lucy Mackintosh Gallery, Switzerland; and Seeking Tacit Utopias curated by Thomas M. Wright at the Surface Gallery, Nottingham.
He has a broad experience working within the computer games industry, starting at Cambridge-based company Millennium Interactive in 1996, then moving to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, London Studio working on PlayStation titles such as Porsche Challenge and as Lead Artist on Rapid Racer. He has worked as a freelance artist for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and developed mobile phone and gaming projects for Novomatic and Sega Europe.
