Wired events for 2011-12
Wired, a series of screenings, seminars, Q&As and workshops with film and television industry professionals organised by the Cambridge School of Art, has begun another season of events for the academic year 2011-12.

Nicola Dove, Photographer

Nicola Dove studied photography in her native New Zealand, and began her career shooting features, portraits and covers for national magazines. She traveled widely, including commissions to document the work of various charities in places such as Tanzania, East Timor, Uganda and Peru. Since 2002 Nicola has been based in the UK, specializing in shooting stills on feature films, such as The Inbetweeners Movie, Brideshead Revisited, and In The Loop.
Clients include the BBC, ITV, Focus Features and HBO. Her background in reportage translates perfectly for working on a film set where one must be unobtrusive yet prepared, fast and efficient. She also produces imagery for posters and marketing, the 'specials' as they are called in the industry, with recent shoots being for The Inbetweeners, Great Expectations, and Hyde Park on Hudson starring Bill Murray.
Alongside she produces her own work for exhibition, with her most comprehensive body of work Observance exhibiting in Denmark, France, New Zealand, Birmingham, Leeds and at Dilston Grove in London. Her work has been selected for numerous international photography festivals and published in art and photography magazines such as Next Level, Ojodopez and the British Journal of Photography.

A graduate of Ireland's Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology, Dublin-born Robbie Ryan has spent 18 years behind the camera, establishing himself as one of Ireland's leading cinematographers with a body of work spanning feature films, numerous award-winning shorts and an impressive resumé of advertising and music video work. Robbie is now based in London, though frequently works in Ireland and the US. Robbie is also a member of the British Society of Cinematographers.
In drama, Robbie has worked with high profile directors, including Andrea Arnold, Marc Evans, Daniel Mulloy, and Murilo Pasta and has recently completed principle photography on The Angels' Share with Ken Loach. Robbie's other film credits include Bille Eltringham's This is not a Love Song, Sarah Gavron's Brick Lane and The Scouting Book for Boys, directed by Tom Harper. Following their successful collaboration on the Academy Award winning short Wasp, Robbie shot Andrea Arnold's first feature, Red Road. He then shot her critically acclaimed Fish Tank, which screened in competition at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for a BIFA for Best Technical achievement for his cinematography. Most recently, Robbie won the Golden Osella for Best Cinematography at Venice International Film Festival for their most recent collaboration: the forthcoming (and staggeringly beautiful) Wuthering Heights.
He has also shot numerous commercials and has worked on music videos for a huge range of artists including Leona Lewis, Amy Winehouse, Kasabian, Super Furry Animals, Ms Dynamite, Goldfrapp, Stereophonics, Girls Aloud, British Rebel Motorcycle Club, Massive Attack, The Streets and Jarvis Cocker.

Hans Petch is a producer/director with over 10 years of television production experience. Hans will be visiting Cambridge School of Art to discuss the world of factual programming and giving his own insight in to the industry.
His credits range from producing 'Imagine: Love, Loss and Anthony Minghella' to producing and series directing Jonathan Ross's Film 2000 - 2007. He was the London producer for the BBC's coverage of the Oscars in 2002 & 2003. He has had a number of projects commissioned by the BBC, including An Audience with Charles Dickens; All Mod Cons and Walking the Meridian Line for ITV. He has directed and produced one-off retrospectives with Tom Cruise, Woody Allen and Harrison Ford. His latest one hour documentary, Wogan on Wodehouse, aired on BBC 2 in September, 2011.

A film editor and sound designer, Larry's work is known for its emphasis on integrating creative sound production with a broad range of visual styles. He has worked in a variety of cinema and television genres, covering animation, fiction and documentary.
His extensive collaboration with award-winning animators the Brothers Quay includes films such as Street of Crocodiles and the live-action Institute Benjamenta and he has also worked with animators Simon Pummell (Secret Joy of Falling Angels; Butcher's Hook; Blinded by Light) and Ruth Lingford. Other credits include Patrick Keiller's surreal blend of fiction and documentary (London; Robinson in Space), Chris Austin's musical biography of jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim, The Brother With Perfect Timing, Ben Hopkins's feature Simon Magus and Mark Mundan's portrait of renegade commercials director Tony Kaye, The Outsider.
Larry has elevated the profile of screen sound through his annual symposium, the School of Sound, an international four-day event exploring the use of sound on the screen. Until his appointment to the NFTS he was a senior lecturer at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design and visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art, the Royal College of Music and the London Institute. He has also contributed articles to Framework, Vertigo, Filmwaves and The Journal of Media Practice.

Jason Arnopp is a writer with a particular interest in the thriller and horror genres. Stormhouse (directed by Dan Turner), Jason's first produced feature script, world-premiered at this years Edinburgh International Film Festival and will make its London premiere at the Film 4 Frightfest this August. Jason's published work includes Friday The 13th: Hate-Kill-Repeat, an official tie in novel for the movie franchise and the BBC audiobook Doctor Who: The Gemini Contagion, which starred Matt Smith's Doctor. He has also written the half-hour film Ghost Writer, plus various Doctor Who tie in short stories and audio plays. Jason's background is in journalism, having written for magazines such as Doctor Who Magazine, SFX, The Word, Heat and Kerrang.
Jason will show clips from Stormhouse and talk about the writing and production process of making a low budget, high concept supernatural thriller, indulge his passion for horror with some tips on what makes a good horror film and the various paths to becoming a working writer.
