Fashion Design students showcase work at Grafton Centre
Students from BA (Hons) Fashion Design will be showcasing their work at a Gala Fashion Show at The Grafton Centre, Cambridge on Wednesday 29th October.
The Grafton, in association with the Cambridge Evening News, is still looking for the next local models as part of their 2008 Modelsearch competition. Successful finalists have been cast to showcase the best of Autumn fashion at fashion shows running daily from Sunday 26th October through until Wednesday 29th October.
Wednesday 29th October sees the grand finale, with the winners announced at a special Gala Fashion Show at 6pm.
It also throws the spotlight on our fashion design students who will be modelling their creations from a special eco design project, set by course tutor Paul Rider. 'Sustainability through a Second Life' was a brief for students to show the way forward in promoting ethics and raising awareness to the waste and overconsumption within society where throwaway fashion is the norm. The students were set a quest to see and honour authentic and original design and finding a second life for items from charity shops, flea markets, wardrobes and attics and exploring their untold histories.
"It was an innovative and individual challenge which the students embraced with great enthusiasm and we're delighted with the results and the opportunity to show them as part of the Gala Fashion Show," said fashion design technician Monique Brown, who has been helping the students prepare for the event.
The BA Fashion Design, is a relatively new programme offered by Cambridge School of Art and forms part of a portfolio of 3D design course which include Interior Design and Film, TV and Theatre Design. For more information please see the Cambridge School of Art courses page.
