Colouring Outside the Lines
The Ruskin Gallery hosted Colouring Outside the Lines: Flemish Illustrators Making Their Mark throughout November 2007. The exhibition, which is travelling around the world, features the work of seventeen innovative artists who are pushing the boundaries in children's picture book illustration. Sponsored by the Flemish Literature Fund, the exhibition coincided with a one-day symposium of the same name, featuring two of the artists, a Flemish publisher and other European artists and publishers discussing European trends in the commissioning of visual texts for children. The packed audience included illustrators, publishers, designers, academics and postgraduate illustration students, including a large number from the Royal College of Art in London.
