CSA students at the Brighton Fashion Show

Three of our BA (Hons) Fashion Design students (Olivia Tullet, Francesca-Willison and Evi-Manousaki) and one graduate (Joy Williams) were recently given the opportunity to exhibit their designs at Brighton Fashion Week 2011.

Of the event, Fashion Design Pathway Leader Wendy Moody said:

"It is imperative that graduates get involved with and invest in high profile external events. This gives them great experience, along with the opportunity to network with other young graduates, successful designers, stylists and photographers. Brighton is a haven for design talent and attracts a great number of designers and design thinkers in fashion. Students have to apply and, if accepted, pay a fee, which includes a stand and a catwalk. There is strong media coverage - last year one of our students was interviewed by Vogue - and they also look to support designers: Joy Williams, a graduate from last year, was sponsored by the organisers for this year's show. She works and lives in Brighton developing her own collections and freelance work."

Olivia Tullett, one of our exhibiting students, told us:

"My end goal for my career in fashion design is to have my own successful label. I have an initial business plan, which will take me into the high end RTW market for womens-wear. I am planning with working closely with silk manufactures both in England and abroad and plan on placing my range in boutiques across a couple of counties. Once this has established itself I plan to branch out into more extensive ranges for women and then move it into couture items as well. Couture is where I want to be but I am aware it is incredibly difficult to break into from scratch."

It is hoped that we will see even more involvement from Cambridge School of Art students at next year's show.
