A sound and fine artist
David Ryan, Reader in Fine Art, featured at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in December. This is the largest festival of new and experimental classical music in the UK, featuring works from international participants. The theme for 2008 was new technologies and innovation.
Ryan collaborated with Italian composer Nicola Sani, currently artistic director of the Teatro del opera, Rome, who provided an electroacoustic score, 'AchaB,' for three clarinets and sound projection. Ryan presented a three-screen video exploring space and surface, creating a visual interplay with the music.
Further experiments with video and live music will be presented at Kettle's Yard in May 2009.
