Photography international visits
For more information on our Photography courses please see the Cambridge School of Art courses page.
A field trip is made once every year in Photography and is available to both FdA Professional Photography and BA (Hons) Photography students at any level of study. Our objective is to help students to deepen their contextual understanding of photography within contemporary art practice. For students who haven't spent a lot of time out of England, these trips are strongly recommended to provide new cultural experiences and a broader perspective on art, architecture and life in Europe.
Paris, 2008-10
We visited Paris during the Mois de la Photo, making trips to the Centre Pompideu, Musée d'Art Moderne and Paris Photo, an international art fair which brings together hundreds of photographic galleries.
Students also had an opportunity to visit the numerous smaller dealer galleries, many of whom devote their programme to photography during the Mois de la Photo. Then there was the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, Maison Europeenne de la Photographie, and that's before mentioning the Louvre or the numerous other attractions.
Amsterdam 2005-7
These trips included visits to each of the major photography museums in the surrounding cities. Students joined guided tours at Fotomuseum Den Haag, the Stedelijk Museum CS, and at Spaarnested Fotoarcheif, made trips to the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum in their own time.
With other institutions, such as Huis Marseilles and Foam, being available in Amsterdam's centre, there were plenty of opportunities for students to make further gallery visits from the hotel located in the Museumplein, Amsterdam.
