Roger Jeynes is Professor of Management Practice at the Institute for International Management Practice (IIMP) of the Lord Ashcroft International Business School. His particular area of interest is in the understanding, development, quantification and realisation of company value. To that end he is working on the development of more systematic and practical approaches to the assessment of company value, building on work he has undertaken for individual companies or entire portfolios on behalf of investors such as 3i, Schroders, Merlin Biosciences, Royal Bank of Scotland, the Welsh Development Agency and several secondary venture capital funds.
Roger is also chairman of AIM-listed Zoo Digital plc (ZOO.L), a non-executive director of Keycom plc (a specialist ISP) and mxData (a mobile application software developer), and serves as an independent director of a fully listed Venture Capital Trust (Downing Distribution VCT1 plc - DDV1.L). During the last 10 years he has served on the boards of more than a dozen technology companies and two VCTs. He also chairs a number of audit and remuneration committees.
Roger's early career was in the technology industry, encompassing senior technical, sales, marketing and general management roles in the UK, Italy and the USA with IBM and Pyramid Technology, and culminating in his appointment in 1996 as Director of Marketing, Europe West for EMC Corporation.
From 1997 to 2006 he was Chief Operating Officer of the technology merchant bank Interregnum plc, leading its flotation and capital raising on AIM in 2000. During his time at Interregnum Roger was responsible for venture capital investment and the implementation of expansion strategies for a number of emerging technology companies, including Respond, Yospace and BlueArc. He founded and led Interregnum's Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) practice, and developed a proprietary company valuation methodology which has been used to practical effect in work for investors such as 3i, Merlin Biosciences, Schroders, and Coller Capital. Interregnum was acquired by the Parkmead Group in 2006.
A mathematics graduate of Sheffield University, Roger holds an Investment Management Certificate from IIMR and is a Fellow of the RSA. Married with two daughters, his leisure time is dominated by an ageing rock band called The Fat Cats for which he is manager and guitarist. He is also the founder of Charborough Music, an independent record label.
