Michael Duignan is an Associate Lecturer and PhD researcher at the Institute of International Practice (IIMP), based at the Lord Ashcroft International Business School (LAIBS) in Cambridge, UK - with previous experience leading national UK government funded projects, lecturing on and developing innovative undergraduate and postgraduate (MBA) programmes for UK and European business schools.

Since completing his MBA (Hanze University) and MAIB (Anglia Ruskin) in early 2009, Michael has been teaching in the subject areas of entrepreneurship and innovation, organisations and management, strategy, research and general transferable skills development. He has also guest lectured on the 'strategic uses of mega-events for local development'. During this period, Michael has led project teams in the fields of business planning and development, strategic marketing and digital development for UK government funded organisation 'Vitae', between 2010-2012.

Michael returned back to LAIBS in October 2012, to research into the impact of mega-events on small business clusters around core event zones; with specific emphasis on the case of the London 2012 Olympic/Paralympic Games.
The study has three key objectives:
1) to conceptualise what a positive Olympic legacy should look like for small local business clusters
2) to understand from both a policy and practice perspective which key contributing factors impact on their business environment, competitiveness and performance
3) to identify how the dynamic of such local small business environments change over time post-Games
