Joachim Kuhn is Professor of Management Practice for international logistics and quality management and Manager for Quality at Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant, Centre for International Production Support. Professor Kuhn has expertise in the design, realization and continuous improvement of supply chains in an international context. Furthermore, he is responsible for quality inspection planning and its realization in plants supplied with car kits. Currently, he builds up knowledge as Black Belt in the areas of 6Sigma, Shainin and further quality tools. All his practice was gained with Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant and on various business trips to the foreign plants of Mercedes-Benz passenger car production.
Professor Kuhn began teaching at the Technical University Ilmenau (Thuringia, Germany) in 1991. He was teaching in the areas of production management and general business management. From 1995 onwards he was visiting fellow of the University of East London giving lectures in the areas of logistics and international management. In 1998 he was appointed as visiting professor and continued teaching on a regular basis. In 2002 he joined Anglia Ruskin University becoming a visiting professorship at the Lord Ashcroft International Business School. On several occasions a year he gave guest lectures on strategic management and globalization patterns in the automotive industry. On 1 January 2008 has was appointed Professor of Management Practice at Anglia Ruskin with a special focus on lecturing supply chain management, international production strategy and globalization issues.
Besides this post he is a guest lecturer at the University of Alcalá de Henares (Spain) teaching in the area of strategic management in the international MBA class.
Professor Kuhn's research interest is embedded in four main areas.
- Results of industrial policy to attract new investment in automotive industry in selected regions.
- Influential factors for foreign direct investment in the automotive sector.
- Evolution of worldwide production networks.
- Sustainability of industrial structures in the automotive sector and related industries as well as services. Illustrated by selected regions after deregulation.
