Dr Ying Xie is the Head of Department in Economics, Strategy, Marketing and Enterprise, at the Lord Ashcroft International Business School, Anglia Ruskin University. Prior to this, Ying was a Programme Director of undergraduate studies in University of Greenwich.

Ying's main research has been in the area of sustainable supply chain management, modelling and simulation, and the application of operational research techniques in logistics and supply chain management. She has developed a number of computer-based decision support systems, which have been adopted by Cash's Ltd. for customer order forecasting and supply chain management. Ying has published over 10 papers in distinguished business/scientific journals and book chapters, including the International Journal of Production Economics, European Journal of Operational Research, Fuzzy Set and Systems, and Supply Chain Management: an International Journal. Ying also serves as a referee for these prestigious international journals.

At present, as principal investigator, she has a pending bid worth £178,991 to the National Institute for Health Research, UK, to launch a pharmacy-based intervention to protect the environment, reduce medicinal waste and optimise medicine use. Publication in The Pharmaceutical Journal proves the value of her research to practice, as this is the official journal of Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and is widely distributed to pharmacists and GPs.

In 2011, Ying was awarded an external industry-based fund worth £60,000 for sustainable real estate development, which includes investigating sustainable development in PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), University of Greenwich and Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and developing business strategies for DingXun Industrial Group, P.R. China. Besides this, Ying received two Research & Enterprise Investment Programme funds to the value of £20,000 and £7,000 for green pharmaceutical supply chain management. Ying is primary supervisor for three MPhil/PhD students.

Collaborating with a group of researchers from Lord Ashcroft International Business School (LAIBS), Anglia Ruskin University and a few European partners, Ying is a participant in a three-year EU-funded project CURA-B or "accurate business in the cure & care market" (total value 2,724, 038 Euros) that improves innovation in the healthcare and social care sectors by identifying and helping overcome obstacles to the commercialisation of innovative products and services for the ageing populations of the UK, Netherlands, Belgium and France.

Ying is also working closely with the government of ZhouShan city, located on the south-eastern coast of China at the mouth of the Yangtze River, to provide consultancy services on how to set up cereals logistics centre and develop docks suitable for 50,000 to 80,000 tonne vessels.

Ying is a full member, examiner and assessor of CIPS (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply), member and examiner of CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport), and member of POMS (Production and Operations Management Society), EuroMA (European Operations Management Association), EURO (European Operational Research Societies), and ISIR (International Society for Inventory Research).
