Nick is Senior Lecturer in Economics at Lord Ashcroft International Business School and Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor, Germany.

Before joining LAIBS, he was Lecturer in Labour Economics at the University of Patras, and Visiting Lecturer in Economics at the University of Piraeus, Athens University of Economics and Business, Panteion University of Social and Political Science, University of Central Greece, Technological Educational Institute of Athens. Also, Nick was specialist scientist at Hellenic Ministry of Defense, and he has advised the Greek government on discrimination and inequality issues.

Nick is the Director of the Scientific Centre for the Study of Discrimination (SCSD) - Greece. SCSD is an intra-University center that develops and implements large questionnaire-based data sets and performs social science research on labour and population economics. In addition, Nick serves in the Editorial Board (Section Editor) of Developing World Women's Issues: Justice, Law and Health (Sweden).

Current research activities

Nick's research interests and activities can be classified into four broad areas. The first and primary research area is the interaction between demographic characteristics and labour market outcomes. The second area is the relation between subjective well-being scales and employment. The third area is immigration and acculturation strategies. The fourth area is health economics and labour relations.

Nick through his econometric publications he has examined the following relations:
  • job satisfaction, health, mental health and wages
  • labour market discrimination against racial and ethnic minorities, health-impaired people, sexual orientation minorities and religious minorities
  • school-age bullying, education, mental health, personality traits and wages
  • acculturation strategies, employment and wages
  • industrial organization, unions and wage anti-discrimination policies
  • housing markets and ethnic bias
  • health, mental health, personality, sexual activity and wages.
According to the Association of Business Schools' Journal Quality List, Nick's published papers warrant 33 STARS (33* ABS). Based on the REF Definitions of Starred Levels, the quality of his research outcomes for the period 2008-2014 can be characterized as: Internationally Excellent in Terms of Originality, Significance and Rigor.

Internationally recognized as a significant figure in the area of labour market discrimination against minorities Nick's publications contribute to various annual reports from prestigious and influential organizations and institutions, such as United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), Council of Europe (CE), International Labor Office (ILO), European Commission (EC), American Psychological Association (APA).

Nick's research has received global media coverage, and he has been interviewed for his research by: CNN, CBS, NBC, Wall Street Journal, Daily Record, The New York Daily News, Yahoo! News, The Huffington Post, Business Insider, Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, Washington Post, Good Morning America, United Press International, Daily Mirror, Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Nick was Econometrics Specialist in a three-year EU-funded project (2011-2013) called, PROGRESS: Combating Labour Market Discrimination. Also, Nick was Econometrics Specialists in a two-year EU-funded project (2011-2012) called, Absorption Alumni Study.

Nick is the 2013 Highly Commended Award Winner, at the Emerald Literati Awards for Excellence 2013. His paper entitled: Men's Sexual Orientation and Job Satisfaction, published in International Journal of Manpower has been selected as: "It was one of the most impressive pieces of work Emerald Editors have seen throughout 2012".

Nick has ten years of teaching expertise in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Public Economics, Statistics and Econometrics. Nick received his BSc in Economics in 2003 from University of Crete. In 2005 he received his MSc in Economics from Athens University of Economics and Business. In 2008 he completed his PhD in Labour Economics at the University of Crete. In 2013, he became Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) after completed his PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (UK).
