Hesham holds a PhD from the University of Surrey. He is a qualified researcher and educator and has a track record of leading some of the most internationally recognised BSc and MSc programmes in hospitality and tourism management. He has wide experience in teaching in the UK and overseas, adopting the latest advances in learning technologies. He has led and delivered courses in four continents around the world.

In addition to his experience in managing and reviewing both UG and PG degree programmes on hospitality management, Hesham has also been supervising and examining research students. He has so far supervised to completion 5 PhD students and more than 50 MSc dissertations. He has also examined 4 PhD theses.

Hesham has published in both academic and trade journals and has presented research papers in major international conferences on hospitality and tourism. He acts as an academic reviewer for a number of top journals in the area of hospitality and tourism. He has also worked with industry partners on short- and long-term consultancy and partnership projects.

Before taking up his current post at Anglia Ruskin University, Hesham worked for the University of Surrey for more than 8 years, in which he led MSc and BSc programmes in Hospitality Management. He also worked as a visiting lecturer in the Business School of South Bank University in London, where he lectured in Marketing Research and supervised the projects of Hospitality Management students.

Before going into academia, Hesham developed valuable industrial experience in hospitality management through working and training with several international hotel and restaurant companies. This included working as a Marketing Coordinator for a multinational restaurant company in the Middle East.
