Institute for International Management Practice: Caribbean

Our Mission

The Institute for International Management Practice: Caribbean (IIMP: Caribbean) is a hub of Anglia Ruskin University's Lord Ashcroft International Business School Research Institute, the Institute for International Management Practice (IIMP).

Our mission is to develop a world class Research Centre in the Caribbean that will provide outstanding scholarship through collaborative working between academics and practitioners both within the region, but also learning from and working with best practice from other countries and regions.

In particular, we will focus on the relationship between theory and practice and work to become a leader in practice based management research.

We will seek to:

  • Exploit opportunities for researchers from the Caribbean to work with, learn from and apply lessons from best practice in other countries and regions;
  • Develop joint research and publications from scholars co-operating across national and disciplinary boundaries;
  • To feed our work into both high quality journals and to impact business practice.

The Work of the IIMP: Caribbean

A key purpose of the Institute is to create new knowledge, insight and understanding of international management practice and the focus of its work will have some common themes including:
  • Developing an understanding of the interconnections between the knowledge base of academic theory of management and the knowledge base relating to the practice of management
  • Understanding the interplay between management education and management practice
  • Understanding how innovation in management practice is happening in different organisations, industries and national contexts
  • Understanding the organisational leadership and management practice issues in relation to global economic, social and cultural trends and issues
  • Understanding the dynamics of management practice in relation to performance management and innovation in organisations
  • Understanding changing management practices in relation to enterprise and entrepreneurship within organisations, industries and economies

The Institute's research programme areas engage with the above issues in the context of particular research themes. The Institute focuses its outputs on:
Caribbean Wall in the Lord Ashcroft Building Chelmsford

Caribbean Wall in Michael Ashcroft Building

  • Publications in highly rated academic and practitioner journals
  • Sponsored research and consultancy and successful grant capture
  • A successful cross-Institute doctoral programme
  • A dynamic portfolio of innovative and market relevant research programme areas
  • Policy and impact outputs in terms of changing management and organisational practice
  • Building a reputable strategic capability in terms of world class experts with understanding of international management practice issues
  • An effective functioning network capability that can both create and respond to market opportunities for practice based research and consultancy
  • Innovative connectivity with business, public service and other organisations
  • Translating research outputs into innovative course designs
  • Conferences, workshops and master classes on the Institute's research

The Institute will develop and grow its research agenda by connecting with organisations in different economic and social contexts. The purpose is to drive the focus of the research in the Institute into addressing 'real world' challenges and problems facing businesses and organisations and that have relevance across national boundaries and across traditional academic disciplines. The Institute will focus upon how organisations internationally are innovating their management practices in response to global issues and to seek out opportunities for creating and sustaining advantage. Understanding differences in practice across international boundaries is seen as helpful to developing new insights into the dynamics of innovation and an organisation's ability to affect fundamental changes in their way of working.
