We are delighted to announce that the first Lord Ashcroft International Business School Marketing Competition successfully took place in April. Launched on the 20th of March, undergraduate and postgraduate students ranging from different courses and years attended the event, which was kindly organised by our Marketing lecturers, Niall Caldwell, Tim Froggett and Nektarios Tzempelikos. The competition gave our students the chance to get creative and use their skills in an exciting on-line marketing challenge, with a mystery prize for the winning team too!

Five teams with course backgrounds in Intentional Business, Economics and Marketing and Tourism, challenged their creativity and marketing expertise as they designed and marketed a backpack to be sold to a market over a four week period. Teams had several options to consider; the game allowed teams to choose the market they want to advertise to, the design of the backpack and how they wanted to advertise. Teams had to look at every aspect of marketing possible in order to enhance the success of their product, and needed to decide carefully over the four week period how best to boost the sales of their product in order to be the most profitable team - and win!

On the 26 April the Online Marketing simulation game drew to a close and Team C, consisting of Jasper Geraets, Davide Poloni and Danilo Audiello (BA Internatioanal Business/MA International Business Economics) were revealed as the most profitable team and competition winners. Niall presented the team with wine and chocolates and unveiled our fabulous mystery prize - a guided punting tour on the River Cam!

The competition was very much enjoyed by students and staff alike and so we would like to take this opportunity to thank the software providers, McGraw-Hill Solutions, and all our students involved. It was a great way to put all the studies and work students have done throughout the year into practice and we look forward to having a competition again next year.
