In close partnership with Basildon & Thurrock University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (the Trust), the Lord Ashcroft International Business School developed the work-based MA Leadership, a highly innovative award. Whereas most university qualifications are academic and topic orientated, the MA Leadership is comprised entirely of practical projects, which are agreed with the organisation.

The aim is to create measurable improvements in individual leaders within the Trust. Individual and group projects, along with the development of leadership personal development plans, are negotiated with the organisation in line with strategic needs and priorities. Academic and practical leadership content is provided to support the projects defined by the organisation. Other key emphases of this qualification are action learning, mentoring and coaching. The MA Leadership has been co-designed with leaders and training staff from the Trust.
