What is the Low Carbon KEEP Programme?

The Low Carbon KEEP Programme aims to assist over 300 businesses in the East of England reduce their carbon footprint, making substantial efficiency savings and investing in clean technologies and renewable forms of energy. The Low Carbon KEEP Programme is part of the government funded, UK wide, Knowledge Transfer Programme, which is dedicated to increasing collaboration between businesses and academic institutions. Low Carbon KEEP programmes typically last between four and eighteen months.

What makes a business project 'low carbon'?

There are a huge variety of projects that can deliver carbon savings, including but not limited to the following:

Process:

• Save money through efficiency savings, reduce environmental impact and make a positive change
• Calculate the carbon footprint of your products or processes, and inform customers of the results
• Prepare for ISO14001 accreditation

Behavioural change:

• Introduce a travel management plan
• Re-educate suppliers in fuel saving, waste reduction and management

Longevity/reuse:

• Save money by reducing energy consumption
• Develop strategic partnerships with other companies for reusing and reprocessing materials and by products (industrial symbiosis)

Technology development or adoption:

• Develop cheaper, faster and smaller solutions

Who is eligible?

Micro businesses (owner, no employees) and small to medium sized businesses (1-249 employees) based in, or trading from a location in, the East of England (Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk).


What will it cost my organisation?

For a small to medium sized businesses, the company contribution will be approximately 60% of the project's total cost, with the programme contributing 40%.


How is the Programme funded?

The Low Carbon KEEP Programme is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the East of England Development Agency (EEDA).
