This Scheme is run by the Employability and Careers Service as part of our employability work with students. It matches second year students with employees from local organisations. The employees act as 'Business Mentors' on a one-to-one basis providing a career related voice of experience for the student. The Scheme is designed to assist students in improving their employability by developing workplace skills and business awareness.

Commitment for all participants

All new mentors and all student mentees must attend training sessions. Additionally, in Chelmsford there is an evening session on-campus when the pairs will meet for the first time.

The pairs will then meet on six occasions of about two hours each (a minimum of 12 hours in total, between November and May).

Information for Students

The employer Mentoring Scheme has been designed to support students (mentees) in thinking about the transition from study to work and to improve employability skills. Each student is carefully matched with a mentor from their chosen field who volunteers time to offer support and encouragement. This is NOT work experience, but work exposure.

Mentor

"Apart from having enjoyed their company, my mentees have given me a fantastic insight into the 'student experience' at Anglia Ruskin University. As a Governor, the quality of this experience is very important to me, but I wouldn't normally get the opportunity to understand it properly."
