Chris began his professional career in cricket in 1981 when he was signed by Nottinghamshire CCC as a wicketkeeper/batsman. An understudy to England wicketkeeper Bruce French, Chris played over 70 first class matches for the county and gained his county cap in 1988. Chris joined Durham CCC in their inaugural season in first class cricket in 1992 and spent five years with the county gaining a county cap.
After leaving professional cricket in 1996, Chris took up the position as Cricket Development Officer for Northumberland. During this time he gained his Level 3 coaching certificate. Chris was appointed senior coach to the Cambridge MCCU on September 1st 2000 and has since gained his ECB Level 4 coaching certificate.
