How To Apply

To apply for an IELTS test at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge or for tests at the venues in Chelmsford, Norwich or Peterborough, you need to submit an IELTS application.

Applications can be made by one of the following methods:
  • Online using our Online Registration System
  • In person at Anglia Ruskin University, we are located in Room Hel065 in the Helmore building (ground floor)
Once you have submitted an application on-line or in person, we will require the following 3 items:
  • Passport Photograph - A recent passport-sized colour photograph no more than 6 months old, showing a close up of the head and shoulders against a plain white background. In line with advice from government immigration agencies, candidates must not wear glasses in the photograph. Please email this to ielts@anglia.ac.uk
  • Passport or National Identity card - A clear legible copy of the personal details page of your valid passport or National Identity card. Please email this to ielts@anglia.ac.uk
  • Payment - Please make your online payment of £131 through our secure online payment system using a debit or credit card.
All enquiries need to be directed to the Cambridge office only. We do not have offices in Chelmsford, Norwich or Peterborough.

Confirmation of Your Test

Your place will only be confirmed once we have received all of the above within 5 working days of your initial application. Incomplete applications will be rejected after this period.

Places on a test cannot be reserved without a completed application form. We can not accept applciation or payment by telephone. Making an online payment does not guarantee your place.
All confirmation details will be emailed.

Alternatively passport photographs and copy of your Passport or National Identity card can be posted to the Cambridge Office.



Booking Conditions

Passport or National Identity Card

On the test day you will need to bring your passport or national identity card that you applied with. If you do not bring your passport or national identity card to the test, then you will be unable to attend.

If you need to send your passport to the Home Office to extend your visa, then please contact us before sending it. Please do not apply for a test if you are not in possession of your passport or national identity card.

Photocopies of your passport will not be accepted on the test day.

Cancellation of a booking

We require 5 weeks notice to cancel your test, less than this will result in the loss of the whole fee. A fee of £20.00 is retained for administration cost and the remaining amount will be refunded, within 2 - 3 weeks of requesting the cancellation. All cancellations must be made by email.

Postponement of a booking

You must give five weeks notice if you wish to postpone the date of your test. A fee of £20 will be made for each postponement. Only two postponements can be made, if you wish to postpone for a third time, you will have to re-apply and pay the test fee again. All postponements must be made in writing (email or letter).

Please note if you book a place within the five week deadline, you will not be able to cancel or postpone your application without losing your whole test fee.

Absentee or lateness on a test date

If you are absent from your test you will lose the whole fee. However, if you are absent due to illness you must provide the centre with a medical certificate. You will then be transferred to the next available test date. A transfer cannot be made without medical proof.

Registration is at 9:00am. Candidates who are late to the registration session will not be allowed to take the test and you will lose the whole fee.
