Paying for your accommodation
How much does it cost?
For Cambridge and Chelmsford, rent ranges from approximately £80 to £120 per week. In Cambridge there are also premium CB1 studio apartments available for £155 per week. All rents include utility bills up to a generous threshold and in most accommodation internet connection. Some properties are managed by Anglia Ruskin and others by accommodation providers we partner with.For Anglia Ruskin managed properties there is no deposit, but you will need to pay the first rent instalment approximately a month before your occupancy agreement starts. In Cambridge, these are Anastasia House, Collier Road shared houses, University shared houses, Peter Taylor House and Swinhoe Hall. In Chelmsford it is the Student Village.
All other properties require a deposit upon accepting the offer. This deposit will be held throughout your tenancy and returned at the end of your tenancy minus any damage deductions.
What is the P.A.T. testing charge for?
P.A.T stands for Portable Appliance Testing and the University is required by law to test all electrical equipment in our accommodation each year to make sure that it is not a danger to you or others.You will be charged £20 after your equipment is tested in Anglia Ruskin accommodation (Anastasia House, Collier Road shared houses, University shared houses, Peter Taylor House, Swinhoe Hall and Student Village). This amount will be added to your next rent payment. If your electrical equipment has already been tested please provide us with a copy of a valid certificate and you will not be charged. In all other accommodation, the building managers will let you know if P.A.T. testing takes place and if there is a charge.
How do I pay my rent?
The method of payment for Anglia Ruskin accommodation (Anastasia House, Collier Road shared houses, University shared houses, Peter Taylor House, Swinhoe Hall and Student Village) is via our web payments. You will need to use a card which is suitable for a remote transaction (ie without you being present to sign).If you cannot pay by web payments, you will need to contact our Finance department to make special arrangements.
For accommodation that is managed by providers we partner with (CB1, YMCA, Sedley Court and the Forum), the building managers will inform you of preferred payment methods and frequency when they send you the offer of accommodation.
I am an international student, how do I pay from overseas?
For Anglia Ruskin accommodation (Anastasia House, Collier Road shared houses, University shared houses, Peter Taylor House, Swinhoe Hall and Student Village) you can pay for your accommodation using the same method as you would use for paying for your tuition fees.For accommodation that is managed by providers we partner with (CB1, YMCA, Sedley Court and the Forum), the building managers will inform you of their preferred payment methods and frequency when they send you the offer of accommodation.
What happens if I am unable to pay my rent for any reason?
If you fail to pay your rent, you may incur a late payment charge. Continually failing to pay your rent will put you in breach of your Occupancy Agreement, so you may be asked to leave and be contacted by debt collectors. Don't let this happen - if you have difficulties, do let your Residential Service know as early as possible.What is included in my rent?
Your rent includes:- Utilities (gas, electricity and water)
- Internet (except CB1, Sedley Court, and off-campus University shared houses, Collier Road houses do include internet)
- Furniture - most rooms are furnished with a single bed, desk, chair, wardrobe and shelves
- Repairs and maintenance for fair wear and tear
- Buildings insurance
- Contents insurance (except CB1, Sedley Court, YMCA & The Forum). Please review your cover to make sure that you're aware of what the policy covers and the options available to you for extending your policy. You can do this on the Endsleigh Student Insurance website (opens a PDF document).
What is not included in my rent?
Your rent does not include:- Food
- TV License
- Repairs for accidental or deliberate damage
- Room cleaning
- External telephone calls (where a telephone is available)
- Laundry facilities
- P.A.T. (where applicable)
