Who can apply for accommodation?

If you would like to apply for accommodation, please ensure that:
  • you've Anglia Ruskin University as your first choice
  • you've firmly accepted a conditional or unconditional offer from us
  • you'll be studying a full-time course
  • for Cambridge, your home is over 35 miles away from campus
  • for Chelmsford, your home is over 10 miles away from campus.
You can also calculate this by using the Google maps distance calculator. Type in Anglia Ruskin's postcode - for Cambridge 'CB1 1PT' or for Chelmsford 'CM1 1SQ'. Click on 'search' and once it says 'found', type your own postcode over the top of Anglia Ruskin's and click the 'found' button again. The distance appears below the map.

You can also check the Cambridge 35 mile radius map in 'Related documents' at the bottom of this page.

In Cambridge, if I apply online for a property managed by a partner of Anglia Ruskin, is the process different?

The application process is the same as if you are applying for an Anglia Ruskin managed property. We will check that your application meets the requirement of our allocation policy, and then pass it on to the property's manager. They will contact you by email with an offer. The properties this relates to are CB1, YMCA, Sedley Court and The Forum. For CB1 (Managed by CRM) and nomination properties managed by Virtualet an administration fee covering reference checking, guarantor administration and contract preparation is payable. These fees are generally non refundable.

My studies will involve going on placement during my course, what accommodation should I apply for?

If you are a nursing, midwifery or ODP student you may also have the opportunity to live in NHS hospital accommodation close to the hospital where you have your placement. For other courses that involve placements which are not close to University accommodation, you have the option to apply to live in University accommodation and travel to your placement. Please note that we are unable to accept cancellations or requests to vacate if you then decide you want to live closer to your placement. Talk with your Faculty in advance about where your placements are likely to be before you apply for your accommodation.
