Social Work and Social Policy

Final year student

BA (Hons) Social Work

The employer talks gave me a better idea of what to expect from the employers perspective - I'm completely happy with the event.

Our courses can help you develop new skills, undertake research, update your practice, change your career and participate in critical contemporary social debates.

Our staff are dynamic and committed researchers, which means that teaching is underpinned by the latest knowledge and evidence.

We aim to increase the commercial awareness and employability of our students by organising workshops, talks from local employers, mock interview sessions, recruitment fairs, offering assistance with job applications - personal statements, CV review etc and liaising with employers regarding job opportunities and feedback.

A student and a lecturer
Our social work courses equip students with the knowledge and skills to enable them to meet the professional and academic requirements for a qualification in social work and students undertake practice placements in 2 contrasting settings.

Each year we organise a social work careers event. In March this year, we had presentations from 3 local authorities, a number of former students, a general employability presentation and representation from a number of employers. This was a fantastic opportunity for final year students to find out more about the transition into the workplace and meet with potential employers.
